Hello Lovely People!
As so many of you are new to Oorla Jewellery I thought maybe I should introduce myself.
I'm Oorla and I have been a little bit obsessed with making jewellery since I was 10 years old when I started fashioning 'clip on' earrings out of wire 'borrowed' from my friend's chemistry kit. I spent my teens poring over the bead selection at 'Creativity' craft shop (stripy mother of pearl elephant earrings anyone?!)
Fast forward a few years, an art degree and a teaching job later, I bought a some silver wire and as many pearls and crystals as I could carry and set to work creating sparkling tiaras and wedding headdresses for friends and colleagues. That was it! I was totally hooked!
After popping out the 2 greatest creations of my life in 2003 and 2006 I felt ready for a career change. I invested in some training (Your jewellery needs to last!) and a lot more gemstones than I could afford and in 2010 Oorla Jewellery was born.
The last 10 years have been a real journey; from selling at craft fairs to teaching jewellery making and working in a multi award winning artists cooperative gallery, creating exclusive jewellery ranges for the National Trust to winning Surrey's best local maker award. I have loved every minute!
My jewellery is mainly inspired by the beauty of my local area - If I'm not at home you will usually find me with my camera crawling through the undergrowth, stalking the deer and herons in Bushy Park. (Just call me David Bellamy!)
Being in nature calms me as I get lost in the beauty of the outline of a leaf, the tiny variations in colour and pattern as the light shines through, the sparkle of sun on water, If I can capture a fraction of that magic and share it through my jewellery design then I'm happy.
My goal is always to create beautiful and comfortable jewellery that makes you feel fabulous and lasts a lifetime.
